ALICE Rowland Musukwa (above) last Friday was crowned Miss Universe Zambia 2010 after outclassing 11 other contestants in a spectacular show held at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.
Musukwa, who convincingly impressed the judges consisting Karen Nakawala, Miss Earth Mofya Chisenga and Misozi Tembo, will now represent the country at the Miss Universe (world contest) in Las Vegas later this year.
The judges were seemingly looking for a young lady true to her identity and a proud African that would help market the country as the contestants, clad in unique attire, were scrutinised in different categories.
The beauty contest saw fifteen contestants competing with only ten remaining in the second round.
Despite failing in other tasks, Wendy Manyanga one of the contestants proved impressive in ethnic attire which was meant to represent different cultural groups in the country.
Musician CQ was the evening's MC which was also punctuated by comedy from Andrew 'Bambooza' Bagabo of the Zambia One Comedy, a dance troupe and music performances from T-Boy and OC.
Alice Musukwa joins the list of Miss Universe Zambia title-holders that include Luo Trica Punabantu, the late Esanju Kalopa, Cynthia Kanema, Mofya Chisenga, Rosemary Chileshe, Sthabiso Mteliso and Andella Matthews.
Last year, Matthews represented Zambia at the contest in the Bahamas and was won by current Miss Universe Stefanía Fernández from Venezuela.
The Miss Universe contest was founded in 1952 by California clothing company Pacific Mills.
